The Two Minute Rule

By Win It Here Staff - May 13, 2021

This is a strategy inspired by the author David Allen.

There are 2 parts to this strategy. The first one is "If a task takes under two minutes to complete, do it now so that it’s out of the way". Simple things such as washing a dish, taking out the garbage, sending a reply to an email, and even clearing up the mess on your table don't take more than 2 minutes, right? So do it now and get it out of the way.

The second part is "any new habit should not take more than 2 minutes to start". You can't train to run a marathon or study to pass an exam in 2 minutes. But taking the first step such as putting in shoes to run, opening up your notes to study, doesn't take two minutes. Take that step every day and you will see the results even though this seems like a very easy thing to do.

Just because it seems so simple, most of us don't believe that they actually work. Believe me, they do!!! So take that simple first step every day, and great things will come to you.
